Get a Jump Start on ProMat
By Gary ForgerThe opening of ProMat 2019 is just a few days away. Quite frankly, this show is a huge deal for all those in the material handling and supply chain world. More than 900 exhibitors at Chicago’s McCormick Place will spend four days (April 8-11) telling their stories to 30,000 plus attendees. These are folks just like you - looking for ways to improve their operations.
OPEX Corporation is uniquely positioned to help you find solutions for your operation. They can be found in booth S631. The entire OPEX crew is looking forward to meeting you there! If you haven’t been before, ProMat isn’t some passive show where you see fancy computer graphics intended to wow you on a screen. Instead, ProMat is where you get to see automation in action, and OPEX will be no exception here. They will have on display their goods-to-person technology, Perfect Pick HD® with double the storage capacity. You’ll also get to see Sure Sort™, the automated put wall that is really a unique technology. OPEX will also be demonstrating how the two technologies can be used together for maximum impact on your operations. There’s a world of opportunity here.
Here’s a preview.
“We look forward to spending time with the attendees, sharing ways to reduce their labor requirements, turn around orders in less than a day and offset the cost of free delivery in the e-commerce world,” says Jeff Hedges, President, OPEX Warehouse Automation.
If you’re up for a little education, OPEX will also be participating in three of the more than 100 seminars offered on the show floor. On Monday, Troy VanWormer will detail the financial considerations of automation (12:30 pm). On Tuesday, VanWormer presents part II of his series discussing the practical considerations of automation (1:15 pm). That’s a powerful one-two punch on getting your team up to speed on how to sell automation internally. The third OPEX session will be presented by John Sauer who will talk about ways to meet and beat the labor shortage challenge. That’s Wednesday at 11:15 am.
All of that said, Hedges suggests you keep an eye out for some other leading-edge developments at ProMat. One, he says, is blockchain. In fact, the show kicks off Monday morning (8:45 am) with a keynote panel on blockchain and its future importance to the supply chain. This is a chance to get a jump on the week with a little inside information on how blockchain improves flexibility and responsiveness in your supply chain. The show opens at 10:00 am following the keynote.
As you walk the show floor, Hedges says you should look out for the use of other technologies such as the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence and even augmented reality. He expects these technologies in particular to have a substantial impact on operations both inside and outside of the four walls of the DC in the very near term.
All of these technologies are already in use in material handling, and their influence is sure to grow rapidly, according to Hedges. But you’re going to have to listen closely. These and other technologies are embedded in the systems on display, rather than being the centerpiece - kind of like stealth technologies that some people think are still years off from being implemented in the warehouse. They aren’t.
There is plenty to see and much to learn at ProMat 2019. Be sure to stop by the OPEX booth, S631 to receive a demonstration of Perfect Pick HD and Sure Sort working seamlessly together to deliver a fast and accurate order fulfillment solution.
Have a good flight and enjoy the show!
